Dubai's drone-powered smart city initiatives The smart city concept in Dubai is changing perceptions even about familiar objects. For instance, at the World Police Summit, a drone traffic light was presented. It was developed by the innovation center of the Ministry of Interior to ensure continuous traffic flow and enhance road safety. The drone will be activated when traffic lights are not functioning due to adverse weather conditions or technical issues.
The Dubai Housing Authority has implemented unmanned aerial vehicles to enhance housing and utility services. These drones are equipped with artificial intelligence and are used for monitoring building conditions, performing maintenance tasks, and data analysis.
Abu Dhabi's coastal security drone program In Abu Dhabi, drones have been in use for over a decade. Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has implemented unmanned aerial vehicles to enhance security measures at port facilities. The drones are equipped with cameras that cover areas in Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, Free Port, and New Free Port.
These unmanned aircraft can view, assess, and monitor accidents and search-and-rescue situations, minimizing the exposure of personnel and contractors to high-risk scenarios. This enhanced surveillance has strengthened maritime security for international vessels and cargo.
In 2024,
Abu Dhabi hosted UMEX, a specialized exhibition dedicated to unmanned technologies. At this event, Microavia showcased its solutions in the fields of security, monitoring, and border control by organizing a public drone flight demonstration.
